Bickleigh Farm Self Catering Holiday Cottages and Bed & Breakfast
|
The South Hams is one of the most beautiful places to visit and Bickleigh Farm is centrally located and is within easy reach of the coast (nearest beach 15 minutes), the River Dart, the main towns of Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge (all 6 miles distant) and is within sight of Dartmoor (only 20 minutes). The farm is half a mile off the A381 and therefore enjoys good access, yet offers complete peace and seclusion. The
name "Hamme" is an old English word meaning enclosed or sheltered
place, and this most southerly point of Devon enjoys long summers, warm autumns
and mild winters. The area is one of exceptional beauty and contrast – wooded
valleys hiding tumbling peaty streams, rolling green hills above placid
estuaries, rich red soil and rust-coloured South Devon cattle, lively market
towns including Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Modbury, and ancient villages where
cob and thatch longhouses have stood for many centuries.
The South Hams’ 60 miles of coastline is traced by the South West Coast Path which winds up and down over cliff tops, around sheltered coves and across beaches of shingle and sand. Forming the northern boundary is unique and romantic Dartmoor with its landscape of bracken and heather, looming tors and ancient hut circles, hiding in its folds many pretty or rugged villages with their welcoming inns.
